Courses & Curriculum

Subject Hours: 80 course time hours (4 hours lecture,76 hours lab) 1.0 Semester Credit Hour


Prerequisites:  High School Diploma


Subject Description: The Brusher Bather course introduces students to the fundamental knowledge and skills required for professional pet care in a grooming environment. Instruction emphasizes breed identification, animal behavior, anatomy, skin and coat care, tool and product usage, safe handling, and proper positioning techniques.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:


  • Identify common dog breeds.
  • Recognize and distinguish between contagious and non-contagious diseases.
  • Prepare, bathe, and dry a variety of coat types using appropriate techniques.
  • Trim toenails safely and effectively.
  • Pluck and clean ears in accordance with industry standards.
  • Perform sanitary trims, including trimming of paw pads, abdominal areas, rump, and facial regions.
  • Apply proper deshedding methods for flat-coated and double-coated breeds.
  • Manage client check-in and payment processes, as well as schedule appointments using grooming software systems.

Prerequisites:  PPS - 101


Subject Description:
This course provides instruction and supervised practice in foundational grooming techniques required for entry-level proficiency. Emphasis is placed on breed-specific grooming, safe and effective equipment use, and routine maintenance of grooming tools.

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:


  • Perform full-body trims on a variety of canine breeds.
  • Execute basic head styling utilizing snap-on comb attachments and shears. 
  • Demonstrate proper operation of the Clipper Vac System to support trimming and styling procedures.
     

In addition, students will develop technical competencies, including the ability to:


  • Disassemble clippers for cleaning and maintenance. 
  • Install and replace blade drives. 
  • Troubleshoot and resolve common equipment malfunctions.
  • Connect and operate electric pumps with shampoo mixing tanks. 
  • Accurately measure and dilute grooming products in accordance with manufacturer guidelines.


Subject Hours: 80 total clock hours (4 hours lecture, 72 hours laboratory)
Semester Credit Hours: 1.0


Prerequisite: PPS-102


Subject Description:
The Professional Pet Stylist course introduces students to American Kennel Club (AKC) breed standard profiles and the advanced skills necessary to execute breed-specific trims. Emphasis is placed on precision styling, breed pattern setting, professional judgment in modifying trims, and salon management fundamentals.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:


  • Set patterns on a variety of breeds according to AKC breed standards.
  • Assess, prepare, and style dogs to meet established breed profiles.
  • Modify styles appropriately based on coat condition, client preference, or pet needs.
  • Apply foundational business practices, including pricing strategies, marketing, and salon problem-solving.

Tuition for the program is $8,995. This includes 240 hours of hands-on training and a certificate of completion upon successful graduation. Tools are not included in the tuition; however, students may purchase a professional tool kit directly from the school if they do not already have their own.
